Free SEO Tools

Free SEO Tools -

SEOBook.com Tools – If you were only to choose one on this page it would have to be the SEO Book Toolbar for Firefox.  Check competition, rankings, page rank, backlinks and more so easily you hardly even notice you are working.

Google Analytics – This tool almost needs no introduction, bar none the best free analytics tool and arguably the best period.

Google Search based Keyword Tool – Especially if you are using Adwords this is a really slick tool that will suggest keyword ideas based on actual Google queries.

Google Trends – See how keyword search volume changes over time.  Google claims that over 25% of all searches every month have never been seen before so staying on top of the language searchers are using can result in much better results.

Bing Webmaster Tools – Bing is doing some really cool stuff right now and the ability to work with their tools from the ground up is going to be really important.  Especially with the merger of Yahoo and Bing, this is going to be the place to be.  I don’t think Bing will ever replace Google, but I do think they will give G a run for their money.

Google Webmaster Tools – Give you a good idea of what your site is ranking for and what backlinks Google is counting towards your site.  Best if used to make sure there are no issues with your site that may prevent it from being indexed.

Google Insights for Search – Drill down and get information on keywords over a period of time within specific regions.

Yahoo Site Explorer – Great for checking backlinks, I usually use the SEO Book toolbar to do this but just to be sure i will cross check it with this.  Also great for finding your competition’s links.  Just keep in mind that if other domains have been redirected you may not see those links in the search results.

Wordstream Keyword Tool – Good for keyword tool for SEO but great for larger PPC campaigns.

Majestic SEO Backlink History Comparison – Pretty much does what the title implies.

Have another tool I forgot?  Let me know and I will post it here with a “thanks to” mention.

Paid SEO Tools -

Website Health Check from Aaron Wall is really an amazing tool for initial consults with clients.  Easily create an action list with out wasting too much time on leads that won’t convert.  You’ll even see a quote from yours truly endorsing the tool.  To down load the tool you’ll need to be a member of SEO Book (currently $150/mo).  Once downloaded the tool is yours to keep, but I recommend staying with it as the information within the community section is invaluable.  make sure to look me up once you get into the community, my handle is “chrisga”.

SEMRush – Great paid tool that allows you to analyze the value of competing site’s traffic along with the volume of the traffic.  Gives you great insight into your competitors Adwords data.

Compete.com – They offer an array of different tools with great data to analyze competitors.

SEOMoz – Although I don’t always agree with their advice the tools they created are really handy, especially for beginners.  Their link building tools are quite good.

Caphyon – Offers software great for in house SEO’s or consultants.  Although I have found the software runs slow simply because of the enormous amount of data it is collecting it really can save a lot of time.
